Johnny Depp can ’cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good!
I’m anticipating Tim Burton’s remake with great zeal, but I’m not so sure about how Depp will be as the infamous Wonka. Although I consider him one of the best actors around, I am not sure if he can match the utter zaniness that Gene Wilder brought to the role. Of course, my worries are moot if Burton has decided to take a different spin on Wonka’s personality.
The original is one of those films that captured my childhood. I dreamed of golden tickets and everlasting gobstoppers. I was pulling for Charlie from the beginning because he looked so pitiful. He gave off the “haven’t eaten for weeks” vibe, which made him utterly likeable–like ahomeless mime.
As is my practice with any good book-based movie, I immediately read the source material. At that early age, I was so enthralled by Roald Dahl’s mastery of fantasy and childhood delight that I read many of his other books such as: Matilda, The Witches, The Magic Finger, The BFG, and others. I recommendthem to all children and the young at heart.
Cover it in chocolate and a miracle or two Tim Burton can! I’m sure that he can. Cuz he mixes it with love and Planet of the Apes Edward Scissorhands was good…
